Speculative Fiction. The term was created after the Golden Age of Pulp Fiction journals began to fall into decline and, in exchange for "slick" and digest the major magazines did. Although it was initially cover the secrets of the literature and discuss topics such as aliens and time machines, speculative fiction eventually came to include other agencies are working well, from fantasy to horror, alternative history at a certain tension and the murder(Depending on who you ask SF to define for you). Some of the area's most popular and respected authors - Ray Bradbury and Harlan Ellison come to mind - have pushed the boundaries of the field size so that the simple (and sometimes complex) definitions that would return once it is no longer valid. The mentality of "you can not classify me" is the tip of the tongue of the writer claimed, but the complaints did not deny the validity of the thesis - in today's world, most books and storiescan and should probably be classified as speculative.
Do not believe me? Go to Barnes & Noble now (or Books-A-Million, Borders, or even one of the many independent bookstores - God knows they need your business more than ever), check the shelves of "Fiction / Literature" section and start . See all read novels with nice little twists and turns? One or two short stories that go along with the request of the prosecutor that the accused confessed to the murder, notsure you have done? Think about it. They have most of these books once they assume that what will happen next, if only to keep you reading?
I am currently reading a novel by a man named David Bender, "The confession of OJ Simpson: a work of fiction." OJ In the book the author wanted the chance, what would happen if deepen. Fred Goldman has offered to confess to the murders in public, in newspapers, in exchange for a civil actionSettlement money he had received. Despite my initial embarrassment on the subject, I was easily absorbed in the work of small size (only 220 pages, with short chapters, so you feel smart) with a passion. So far everything has come to me like a train, with a writing style crisp and fresh, even though nearly two decades old.
Why am I telling this story in particular? Well, because it is a classic case of alternate history, it is definitely! We all know that Simpson did not accept the offer, the book offers an alternative route to what we already knew distorted. This is not a novel by Harry Turtledove World War II based here - it's a complete change-up, which was seen as the crime of the century. And so far, I find more fun than anything else Harry Turtledove began to dream ever (no offense to you for Turtledove fans out there).
Some of our recent Pulitzer Prize winners have other forms of wide speculation> Fiction too. Take, for example, the book by Cormac McCarthy "The Road". Now, this picture: the post-apocalyptic world. Husband and son survive against storms and weather and man-eating people, to show only that their family bond is strong. This is a classic James Stewart (the author of the book was wonderful, "Earth Abides") You could also look at Stephen King "The Stand" similarities.
During the years 1950 and 1960, many of your "literary" critical conflict in theirArguments the idea that none of the speculation that it will work (with the exception of high-quality fantasy writers like Tolkien) were not worth anything. Over the past decade, but novels and short stories with a speculative element has been seen not only in position, but also full of sparks and perhaps more power than anything else could the "mainstream" authors as well.
But what it means to write with a speculative element? Choose books to choose from the braininfinite possibilities of the human species? We live in a time with a fusion of genres - techno-thrillers and crime novels, the blogosphere, legal dramas and secrets with the more human elements, war, and alternate future novels teach us that we can take only the slightest change to make great results. These are the things that are speculative in nature.
Together with the Journal. Book, I'm also reading John Grisham "The Chamber". Now, this novel takes on the struggles of the civil rights movement, and speculatesFamily Ties, when coupled with the death penalty. Pure legal thriller. And yet teaches us a truth, a struggle that we as Americans are constantly in our constitutional system to deal with justice, that is all too real. This is not the speculative literature?
Perhaps the most important question, this is not the reason for the dependence on questions about justice, or what would change if we know the man who committed the crime, eventually confessed - perhaps the most important question of all is the reason for allthese issues in our culture, our thoughts and our humanity.
It 's time to speculate.
